In Rochester [NY], the Border Patrol station opened in 2004, with four agents to screen passengers of a new ferry from Toronto. The ferry went bankrupt, but the unit has since grown tenfold; its agents have one of the highest arrest rates on the northern border
Makes sense, right? This is turning into Arizona all over again. Except maybe with a little less overt racism. So here’s the deal — as the quote above says, they established a Border Patrol station because a fast ferry was being built between Toronto, Canada and Rochester, NY. That’s perfectly reasonable and fine. Don’t even get me started on the cluster-f**k that was the Rochester-Toronto “Spirit of Ontario I”
